Judicial probe into police station suicide

Gurgaon: A judicial probe has been intitiated into the death of 24-year-old Vijay Kumar, who had committed suicide in Sushant Lok police station on Sunday, even as the post-mortem report confirmed on Monday that his death was caused by hanging. A departmental inquiry has also been started against a head constable who had brought Kumar to the police station.
Kumar, originally from Auraiya in UP, had been living in Gurgaon for the past two years and working as a security guard.
Around 8.15am, he was brought to the police station by head constable Jagbir for questioning in a vehicle theft case on a complaint made by a person named Zakir. An hour later, an assistant sub-inspector found Kumar hanging from a ceiling fan in the resting room for cops.
"A departmental inquiry against the head constable and a judicial probe into the death has been initiated. The deceased's family has, however, not raised any doubt and we have handed over the body to them. It was only a suicide case," said Deepak Saharan, DCP (east), Gurgaon. "The cause of death was strangulation due to hanging," said Dr Deepak Mathur, forensic expert and member of the board of doctors that conducted the autopsy.
