LAHORE: Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has seized more than 1,200 kg unhygienic meat and arrested two accused in a crackdown against them at the premises of Chung Police Station on Saturday. According to details, more than 1,200-kilogram meat of emaciated and diseased animals was brought from outside Lahore for the purpose of selling on different butcher shops in the city on two vehicles. PFA, under the supervision of its Operations Director Ayesha Mumtaz, seized those vehicles near the EME Society. On the occasion, PFA Operations Director Ayesha Mumtaz said that unhygienic meat causes several diseases among citizens, especially children. She said that they have registered a case in the local police station against drivers of the vehicles who were carrying the meat. The samples of unhygienic meat have also sent to the laboratory for further tests and investigation, she added. Mumtaz said PFA would continue its crackdown operation until the end of the menace, and those involved in such activities would put behind the bars come what may. Separately, PFA Ravi Town also conducted a raid in its respective area and sealed the production unit of Shahid Saeed and Bakery on Saturday. Officials said that during the raid, they founded several insects from their kitchen while the maintenance of overall hygiene of the bakery was deplorable.
