Counting centre inspected

The District Collector and District Election Officer D. Karthikeyan inspected the counting centre of Mettur Assembly constituency set up in The Kavery Engineering College in Mecheri on Saturday.

He discussed with the revenue, police and PWD officials on the facilities created at the centre.

J. Meghanath Reddy, Sub-Collector and Returning Officer for Mettur constituency, was present.

In a statement, Dr. Karthikeyan said counting centres for the eleven constituencies have been set up in four institutions: Gangavalli (reserved) and Attur (reserved) constituencies – Narasingapuram Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Attur; Yercaud, Omalur, Salem West, Salem North, Salem South and Veerapandi constituencies – Government College of Engineering, Karuppur; Edappadi and Sankagiri constituencies – Vivekananda College of Education, Veerachipalayam and Mettur – The Kavery Engineering College, Mecheri.

Steps have been taken for the provision of drinking water, and bathroom facilities for the poll staff, candidates and the party agents.

Meanwhile, the district administration has taken initiative for administering oath for ensuring cent per cent polling to all the citizens of the district at 10 a.m. on May 10.

A press release of Dr. Karthikeyan said that the oath will be administered in all the government offices, police stations, town panchayat, panchayat unions and village panchayats, RTOs, banks, educational institutions, self-help groups, poverty eradication groups etc at the same time.

He called upon the voluntary organisations such as Rotary, Lions and Red Cross movements, too, to administer the oath to its members.

People waiting in the bus stands, railway stations and other public places, too, can take the oath on their own, the release added.
