Now, autos clog Old City as pedestrianisation plan takes off
Hyderabad: With works for the Charminar Pedestrianisation Project resuming, a new problem awaits people -- haphazard parking of autos. When the project was taken up, the Hyderabad traffic police had turned the Charminar heritage precinct free of autos. Meaning, there would be no movement of autos towards Charminar from Gulzar Houz, Laad Bazaar, Sardar Mahal and Makkah Masjid.

But now auto drivers have begun parking their vehicles at the entry point of all these roads in a haphazard manner in a bid to get passengers. This in turn has clogged entry points to Charminar, which has a cascading effect on movement of traffic, say police.
"We are planning on sending a few policemen to regulate the traffic on these roads. We have already demarcated areas where drivers can park their vehicles. We will begin regulating them from Monday onwards," said A V Ranganath, DCP (traffic).
