Delhi: Ola fires driver after Belgian woman alleges molestation

“We have asked the woman to file a written complaint. Once we receive the complaint, we will take action,” he said.

A 24-year-old Belgian woman was allegedly molested by an Ola cab driver in southeast Delhi’s C R Park Saturday evening. DCP (southeast district) M S Randhawa said police received a call from the woman’s friend who told them about the incident. “We have asked the woman to file a written complaint. Once we receive the complaint, we will take action,” he said.

According to police sources, the woman had booked a cab Saturday evening from Gurgaon and was on her way to meet a friend. “Initial investigation revealed that when she reached C R Park, she got into an argument with the driver over the drop location. The driver then molested her and fled the spot,” added sources.

The woman later approached a friend and narrated her ordeal, who in turn informed the police, said sources. “A PCR call reporting the incident was received at 10.15 pm. The woman is in the process of registering a complaint,” said the sources.

Last year, a senior official posted with the Ministry of Railways alleged that an Ola driver had misbehaved with her when she objected to the route he had taken. Her daughter was also in the cab when the incident took place.

Ola, in a statement said, “The said driver has been terminated from the platform with immediate effect. We will share all required information with the authorities to help resolve this for the customer. We have zero tolerance to such behaviour from drivers on the platform.”
