The long-cherished dream of Medak people may soon become a reality with the Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao deciding to form 24 districts in the Telangana State.
It was stated that Medak district would be trifurcated into Medak, Sangareddy and Siddipet districts with parts of other districts to be merged in the newly proposed districts.
According to sources, Siddipet will have Siddipet, Gajwel, Dubbak of Medak district and Husnabad and Manakondur of Karimnagar districts as its constituencies with Siddipet as district headquarters.
With regard to Medak district, Medak town in addition to Narsapur, Jukkal and Banswada from Nizamabad district would be merged with Medak district as district headquarters.
In the case of Sangareddy, which is district headquarters now, Sangareddy, Zaheerabad, Andol and Narayankhed will be part of it. “Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao will disclose the details of which constituency would be in which district,” said an officer on condition of anonymity and added that the process was on. This will fulfil the dream of people from three areas. The people of Siddiept have been agitating for the past several years to make Siddipet as separate district as it was becoming a Herculean task for the people of that area to come to the district offices located at Sangareddy, about 140 kilometres. In addition, Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao time and again promised that Siddipet would be formed as separate district. Not only that, formation of more districts was in the election manifesto of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).
On the other hand, the people from Medak and surrounding areas have been demanding restoration of Medak as district headquarters as it had once enjoyed that status.
It was reported that Collector D. Ronlad Rose was busy with meeting officials at Hyderabad on Thursday and Friday to discuss the proposals from the district in addition to proposing model for the Collectorate buildings in the newly proposed district headquarters. He took a team of architects along with him to the Integrated Collectorate Complex (ICC) at Sangareddy, which is being considered as the best model in the State.
“We will get relieved from moving all the way for about 140 kilometres to meet any official in the district head quarters,” said Ravi, a resident of Siddipet.
