FTII gets ‘bomb’ parcel with death note for Kanhaiya

May 08, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - PUNE:

The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) received an anonymous parcel allegedly containing a death threat note addressed to Jawaharlal Nehru University Student Union (JNUSU) leader Kanhaiya Kumar, along with explosive powder and a detonator.

The parcel is purportedly a warning to students of the dire consequences they would face if Mr Kumar was invited to speak on campus, and created a flutter on campus with students suspecting fringe right-wing groups. The city police are investigating the matter.

The FTII Students’ Association (FSA), despite broadly backing Mr Kumar’s speech in the city last month, had not issued a formal invite to the student leader to speak on campus.

Tthe FSA had made it clear that Mr Kumar was welcome on campus as a student leader or a fellow comrade as the student body had no intention of shying away from politics. His speech at Balgandharva Rangmandir was held under heavy security cover.
