Accident case altered as murder case

A daily wager Lingam alias Padmanabhan (52) of Panakottanvilai had allegedly fell down on the ground and sustained grievous injuries when he went to meet a leader of political party in Thovalai on April 25.

He was admitted to a private hospital and later shifted to the Kanyakumari Government Medical College Hospital but died on Friday.

Based on a petition submitted by Thirupappunathan (56), brother of the deceased, Aralvoimozhi police filed an accident case and altered it as a murder case based on a complaint received from Kani, sister of the deceased.

Police registered a case under section 302 (murder) of IPC against an auto driver Muthuvel (30) of Thovalai.

It was alleged that the deceased fell down on the ground and sustained grievous injury when he had a scuffle with the auto driver, when the van of the former was parked in the middle of the road. Police is searching for the auto driver.

Meanwhile, Opposition parties took up the matter with the Police Observer Ajit Patia and also the Election Commission of India.
