Lucknow: Probing the case in which four of the same family were found murdered in Unnao district, police arrested a 26-year-old youth on Saturday. Accused Anil Lodhi also robbed valuables from their house.
On May 1 night, Lodhi had entered the house of Sarita Chaudhary (41) in Maurawan. He tried to open an almirah when the noise woke up Sarita and her daughters.
Anil worked with a laundry and was next door neighbour of the Chaudhary family. Sarita's husband works in Kuwait.
Lodhi picked up a brick and hit Sarita on the skull. He went on to bludgeon her daughters Monika (21), a BA student, Mahima (16) a student of class XII and Astha (11). the youngest daughter who studied in class IV. Monika's clothes were found disturbed and had given rise to suspicion of rape. "Lodhi escaped with all the jewellery and Rs 3,500," said IG zone A Satish Ganesh who announced cash reward of Rs 12,000 for the team which worked out the case. Foul stench was emanating from the house and the door was broken on Wednesday. Police initially maintained poison had been given to the family and their bodies decomposed. But kin of the deceased found items missing. Several neighbours were detained for questioning. Locals had told police that Lodhi visited the house frequently. He was traced and he confessed to his crime, said Ganesh.
