Tamil Nadu elections are due in less than 10 days and the campaigning is currently going on in full swing. While CM Jayalalithaa believes that work done by her will be enough to buck any notion of anti-incumbency and get her back to power, the main opposition party DMK feels otherwise. According to Kanimozhi who is a former Union Minister and daughter of DMK patriarch Karunanidhi, the AIADMK government has failed to provide governance in the state.

Speaking to The Times of India, Kanimozhi firmly rejected the possibility of the stain of corruption affecting her party's chances. The 2G scam hit UPA 2 badly with the likes of A Raja and Kanimozhi herself getting accused in the spectrum allocation deal. Kanimozhi was also behind bars for six months.

Jaya in her speeches has tried to focus on the issue of corruption giving particular focus on DMK's alleged involvement in the 2G scam. But Kanimozhi believes that it would not affect people's voting as Jaya was herself implicated in the disproportionate assets case owing to which she had to step down from her office for a while.

Kanimozhi in the interview is ambivalent about who will be the eventual successor to her 92-year-old father, M Karunanidhi. She also plays down her party's on and off relationship with Congress, who have had several splits in the past and currently are in alliance again. Kanimozhi believes that the multi-pronged election will help the DMK-Congress alliance as AIADMK doesn't have allies with them. Reacting to the 'Bharata Mata ki Jai' controversy, she said that Tamil nationalism and Indian nationalism can co-exist and one doesn't need to chant slogans to prove their patriotism.
