Mysuru: CogNIEscience-2016, a national-level technical paper-presentation contest, was hosted recently by the department of mechanical engineering of National Institute of Engineering (NIE).
Speaking on the occasion, A Raghunath, assistant general manager (manufacturing), BEML (Mysuru), said: "Automation in manufacturing engineering will increase quality, cost and productivity along with enhancing workplace safety."
S L Ramachandra, director of NIE managing committee, highlighted the importance of mechanized farming in agricultural sector to increase yield in farming.
"Students must have confidence to work for the country, and to support 'Make in India' concept with their innovative ideas. This will be useful for society," he added. NIE dean B Suresha released the CD of CogNIEscience-2016 on the occasion.
CogNIEscience-2016 featured 70 technical papers from engineering students from across Karnataka. As many as 38 papers were shortlisted for the presentation in five distinct streams: automotive engineering, design engineering, thermal engineering, manufacturing engineering and PG. tnn
In order to develop research interest in young minds and to support 'Make in India' concept, a special category for first-year students, with a theme on 'Innovative engineering technology for agricultural sector' has been introduced.
M V Achutha, head of mechanical engineering department, and Ravi Kumar Beernur and N S Srikanth, coordinators of the event, were present.
At the valedictory, T K Chittaranjan, treasurer, and G S Suresh, dean (academics), NIE, gave away cash awards to the winners.
Karthik Adappa and A Kartheek of NIE won the Best Paper Awards.
