Bannanje Govindacharya to be felicitated on Monday

The Ishavasya Pratishtana and Bannanje Associates will organise a function to felicitate scholar and writer Bannanje Govindacharya on his 80th birthday here on Monday.

Addressing presspersons here on Friday, Vinaya Bannanje, trustee of the pratishtana, said that a book titled “Kishkindakanda”, a compendium of articles written by Bannanje Govindacharya as columnist in a leading Kannada daily during the 1970s, will be released on the occasion. His column in the daily too had the same title as the book.

Some books written by Mr. Govindacharya will also be released on the occasion.

They are: “Yajniyamantropanishat”, “Sri Vishnu Stuti – Nakha Stuti – Vayu Stuti”, “Bhagwad Gita – Kannadada Kannadiyalli – Adhyaya 2” and “Udupi of Lord Krishna”.

Ambatanaya Mudrady, writer, will deliver the introductory remarks and present a review of the books.

N.B. Vijay Ballal, managing trustee of Sri Janardhana and Mahakali Temples, will release the books.

Keshavananda Bharati Swami of Edneer Mutt will attend the event.

As many as eight eminent persons, who have contributed to different fields, will be felicitated with “Jnana Degula Prashasti”.

They are: H.B.L. Rao, president of Mumbai unit of Kannada Sahitya Parishath, K. Gururaj Bhagwat, eye specialist and Ayurveda pundit, K.P. Rao, scholar and software expert, Heranje Krishna Bhat, director of Rashtrakavi Govinda Pai Research Centre, Sagri Raghavendra Upadhyaya, expert on Dwaita philosophy, Hussain Saab, singer of Dasara Padagalu, Varijakshi R. Bhat, Carnatic vocal singer, and Lakshmi Gururaj, Bharatnatyam dancer.

The programme will conclude with the staging of a play, “Nenapadalu Shakuntale”, a Kannada translation of Sanskrit poet Kalidasa’s magnum opus, “Abhijnana Shakuntala”.

The play will be staged by the Samuha troupe and is directed by writer and playwright Udyavara Madhava Acharya.

The music will be rendered by Madhur P. Balasubrahmanyam and choreography by Bhramari Shivaprakash.

Sarvajna Bannanje, trustee, and Ajit Kumar of Bannanje Associates, were present.
