Chief Secretary wants officials to stay alert for a few more days

: Chief Secretary to Telangana Government, Rajiv Sharma, on Friday directed senior officials of various departments to be vigilant for another couple of days, following heavy rains that lashed different parts of the State early on Friday.

At a review meeting held with the officials on the damage caused due to heavy rains, the Chief Secretary told them to take up immediate relief measures to restore power and water supply, wherever they were disturbed.

As a precautionary measure, Chief Secretary directed the GHMC officials to be cautious about dilapidated and unauthorised constructions and initiate action against them immediately. He wanted the civic body to clear debris, particularly on the roads, left behind by the rain havoc on a war-footing by engaging special teams to ensure free flow of traffic.

Asking them to attend to the damaged hoardings on the roads, the Chief Secretary told them to focus on sanitation too. Metro Rail officials informed that roof-sheets were blown away by heavy winds at Miyapur. Officials informed the Chief Secretary that 359 trees got uprooted in the City and 282 of which were already cleared and the remaining would be removed by Saturday. Rainwater was stagnated at 266 places but it was cleared at 250 places. Water supply officials said that there was a shortage of 25 million gallons supply but it would be restored by Saturday.

Energy officials informed the Chief Secretary that supply was restored up to 11 KV and transmitting power supply to 95 per cent, rest will be restored in the morning. They further informed that they are providing power to 95 per cent of LT connections. Chief Secretary wanted the damaged poles to be removed immediately so that no inconvenience was caused to road-users.

He stated that Hyderabad Disaster Management Authority would be reconstituted under the chairmanship of GHMC commissioner soon. He asked the officials to ascertain damage caused to poultry and horticulture sectors too and told them to attend calls from public.

Meanwhile, officials of Southern Power Distribution Company (TS-SPDCL) stated that rain and heavy gales have damaged/uprooted 1,607 poles of LT/11KV/33KV lines, 11KV/LT conductor was for a total length of 8.73 km and 60 distribution/pulse transformers were failed from May 4 to 6.
