Civic sweeper gets an MPhil

Mumbai: A BMC sweeper, Sunil Yadav (36), on Friday secured an MPhil degree from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS). Yadav, who is deployed at Nana Chowk during duty hours, now plans to pursue a PhD degree to understand the problems plaguing the sweeper class and to solve them.
“I am elated on securing my MPhil. By doing PhD, I want to deeply study the social system that has marginalized our (sweeper) class in society,” Yadav, who secured seventh rank with ‘Globalisation and Labour’ as the subject, said after the convocation ceremony on Friday.
Even after his achievement Yadav said he wanted to continue with his job.
