Terron Beckham’s hair isn’t what caught Todd Bowles’ eye

Terron Beckham better hope the Jets don’t hold his hair color against him.

Beckham, the cousin of Giants star Odell Beckham Jr., showed up for his three-day tryout with the Jets with blue hair — a color more fitting for his cousin’s team than Gang Green. Beckham said the hair color had to do with the anime show “Dragon Ball Z,” not a statement about where his allegiances lie.

Beckham is a fascinating player at the Jets’ rookie minicamp. A personal trainer and fitness model, Beckham did not play college football. His last organized game was in 2010 in high school. But his blend of size and speed was enough for the Jets to offer him a tryout as a running back.

“I can do it all,” the confident Beckham said of his running style. “I think I can offer an every-down-back type of deal. I have strength. I have power. I have explosiveness. I know everybody is waiting on me to get into pads and see what I can do and see if I can take a hit. I believe I can, of course.

“I see myself as that kind of Chris Ivory-type of back, how he runs.”

Beckham might be getting a little ahead of himself. The Jets are taking a flier on him, but he is a long, long shot to make the team. He fumbled on his first carry of Friday’s practice.

Jets coach Todd Bowles said even though Beckham did not play in college, he showed some good things Friday.

“It’s probably different from the fact that he hasn’t been in pads in a while, but he looks like he knows how to play football,” Bowles said. “He’s studious. He pays attention to detail and he understands what he’s doing.”
