Police trying to hush up Devi case, say kin

May 06, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 06:13 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Attempts of Jubilee Hills police on Thursday to reconstruct the ‘death’ of student Devi Reddy in road accident— termed a murder by her father — led to her family members raising more doubts.

Charging that the police were trying to hush up the case, the victim’s family members, relatives and friends turned up at the accident spot near Journalists colony around 2 p.m. on learning that investigators were reconstructing the fatal road accident. Carrying placards and raising slogans accusing the police of partisan attitude, they tried to stop the investigators from re-building the sequence of events.

Mild tension prevailed for a few minutes. The main objection from Devi’s family was about the condition of the car, which appeared to have been damaged more than when it was first found on the day of accident.

As per the photos taken soon after the accident was reported in the wee hours of Sunday, the front portion of the car was almost intact. When the car with a wrecked front portion was brought to the spot, Devi Reddy’s father Niranjan Reddy alleged that the car was intentionally damaged to make it look like an accident while actually she died of some foul play.

Police personnel led by West zone DCP A. Venkateshwar Rao attributed the damage to the car to the towing vehicle. This sparked off an altercation between the student’s members and the police. Interestingly, a new eyewitness emerged in the case in the form of a domestic help K. Raju who lives in a flat close to the accident spot.

“I noticed a police vehicle and rushed out of the building. I saw the lifeless woman being brought out from the car. Some time later, she was shifted in an ambulance,” he said. According to him, after 15 minutes, the damaged car was also taken away from the spot.

Shifted

Meanwhile, Jubilee Hills Inspector S. Venkat Reddy has been moved out of the investigation into the case considering the allegations levelled by the victim’s father. Banjara Hills ACP Uday Kumar Reddy would supervise investigation of the case.
