JOIN USBengaluru girl Archana Kamath clinched the bronze medal in the ITTF Spanish Junior and Cadet Open Table Tennis tournament at Platja d’Aro, Spain on Thursday.
Archana, who is in her first year in the Junior under-18 category on the international circuit, went down 2-4 (10-12, 5-11, 6-11, 11-3, 12-10, 5-11) to second seed Kana Takeuchi of Japan in a closely fought semifinal.
Apart from Archana all the other three semifinalists were from Japan. In the quarterfinals, Archana had upset third seed Maria Taylakova of Russia with a 4-1 victory (9-11, 13-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-8) and in the pre-quarterfinals, she won 4-1 (11-8, 11-2, 11-6, 7-11, 11-9) against Nikita Petrovova of Czech Republic.
In the round of 32, Archana got the better of her compatriot Diya Chitale (4-1).
