McCain plays CYA: Tries blaming Trump in advance of his loss

McCain can blame his dubious reelection chances on Trump and angry Hispanics, but it’s the fed up GOP conservatives who are prepared to toss him to the curb

At a private fundraiser last month, John McCain warned attendees that Donald Trump as the GOP nominee could antagonize Latino voters in Arizona, making his reelection campaign “the race of my life.”

POLITICO reports that publicly, John McCain insists Donald Trump will have a negligible effect on his campaign for reelection. But behind closed doors at a fundraiser in Arizona last month, the Republican senator and two-time presidential hopeful offered a far more dire assessment to his supporters.

“If Donald Trump is at the top of the ticket, here in Arizona, with over 30 percent of the vote being the Hispanic vote, no doubt that this may be the race of my life,” McCain said, according to a recording of the event obtained by POLITICO. “If you listen or watch Hispanic media in the state and in the country, you will see that it is all anti-Trump. The Hispanic community is roused and angry in a way that I’ve never seen in 30 years, ” he said.

Once again McCain’s got it wrong. It’s not Hispanics who are aroused and angry.  It’s  conservative Republicans who are tired of being on the receiving end of McCain’s vengeful wrath as he colluded with liberals — including a top Obama donor — to oust longtime Party activists from their elected precinct committeemen posts. It’s conservative Republicans who resent having him target them for IRS scrutiny as he conspired with Democrats in the Obama administration and his leftist senate  colleagues. The embarrassment of statewide intra-party censures infuriated him.

McCain has forged deep inroads with the ambitious AZ GOP chairman, Robert Graham, whose loyalty extends to those he thinks can benefit him.  It’s one hand washing the other, but the water is murky and there is no soap strong enough to sanitize the fetid stench. 

Running for another 6-year term at age 80, is obscene, but nothing fazes McCain. That’s why he can lie about the border fence one day and the following day he and his underling Jeff Flake can cobbled together the Gang of Eight amnesty hacks and even endorse one of them, Marco Rubio, for president of the United States.
