The Netherlands have called up Manchester United rising star Timothy Fosu-Mensah for their trip to Dublin to face the Republic of Ireland in three weeks' time.

Louis van Gaal was happy to throw the 18-year-old into the deep end in February, bringing him off the bench on 55 minutes in a 3-2 win over Arsenal at Old Trafford

The powerful teenager has been deployed defensively for United but can also operate in midfield. He's joined in the Dutch squad by his club team-mates Daley Blind and Memphis Depay for three friendlies in nine days - starting with the Aviva Stadium clash with Martin O'Neill's men and followed by clashes with Poland and Austria.

The Netherlands failed to qualify for this summer's Euros in France after a 3-2 defeat to the Czech Republic proved the final nail in the coffin of a dreadful qualifying campaign.

Manager Danny Blind has left out the likes of Robin van Persie, Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder as he looks to rebuild, and Fosu-Mensah's inclusion is indicative of his desire to freshen things up.

Ireland will be tweaking their final preparations for France when the Dutch come to town, with a Turner's Cross game against Belarus on Tuesday 31 May the final run-out they'll get before taking on Sweden in Stade de France on Monday 13 June.
