Thelma and Louise are back.
Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon will receive the Women in Motion award from Kering and the Cannes Film Festival, it was annouced on Friday. The Academy Award-winning actresses are being honored for their contributions to the movie industry and the women’s cause as part of a program that aims to support female professionals in the film business.
The “Thelma & Louise” stars, who are celebrating the cult hit’s 25th anniversary, will be honored at Cannes’ “presidential dinner” on May 15. The Ridley Scott classic screened at the 1991 edition of the fest.
The duo with receive the award from Cannes President Pierre Lescure, Cannes General Delegate Thierry Frémaux and Kering Chairman-CEO François-Henri Pinault.
Davis is founder and chair of the non-profit Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, which researches the imbalance of female characters on-screen and behind the camera. Sarandon is a human rights activist involved with various non-profits and organizations worldwide.
The actresses have also chosen the winner(s) of the second Women in Motion award in support of young talents. The recipient(s) will be unveiled soon.

This is the second edition of the prize, which was given to Jane Fonda and producer Megan Ellison last year.
