Basava Jayanti celebrations in Bidar

Umashree, district in-charge Minister, will inaugurate Basava Jayanti celebrations organised by the government in Bidar on May 9. She will garland a statue of the 12 century saint at Basaveshwar Circle in the evening. She will also flag off a procession where folk artistes will perform. All government and semi-government offices will celebrate the day by offering floral tributes to an image of Basaveshwara, said a release.

The district Basava Jayanti celebrations reception committee has announced a three-day event. Medical Education Minister Sharanprakash Patil will inaugurate it on May 7. Various lectures will be held on Basaveshwara philosophy on May 7 and 8. Mahantappa Nandoor, writer, and other resource persons will speak. Sripad Hegde will sing vachanas. Usha Prabhakar and Rani Satyamurthy will present Vachana Nrutya performances
