Affairs of the heart: Eight Kenyan celebrity couples that have gone public with their romance

Very few people knew that Welle Welle singer Timmy T Dat and Kush Tracey, her of the popular Huwezi ni Dandia rap single, had a thing going.

Those who found them in studio, where they are known to spend endless hours together, just thought it was all about music. It wasn’t.

After dating secretly for months, the romantic affair came into the public limelight by accident, literally. A car accident.

One day last month, Kush had made a celebrity appearance at Club Natives along Thika Road. She then joined Timmy T Dat who also had a show along the same road and as the two were driving home, they got into an accident. By morning, news was out that the two lovers were in hospital receiving treatment.

The Nimekubali hit maker picks up the narration. “We have done a song together and we were to scout the location (for a video shoot) before we could head home. Then the accident happened and we were admitted in hospital.”

Timmy, who had bruises on his arms and had to undergo a scan on his chest, was the worse off, with Kush only experiencing shock. When Pulse talked to them this week, they were both in the studio, recording new projects.

According to sources close to the two, they are inseparable, and just last Friday, they attended Frasha’s album launch together. They have been dating for months now and the relationship became official after the accident. Kush, who has dated Kukachora rapper Kristoff before, seems happy, constantly posting photos of the two together.

Eric Omondi and Shantel Grazioli

If you are not aware of the romance between these two by now, you are probably not a social media enthusiast. These love birds have featured constantly on each other’s social media accounts as they tell the story of their love through pictures. However, long before the two ‘played house’, rumours had been going round that Eric was dating a prominent TV personality but they turned out to be exactly that, rumours.

Eric had long kept his better half away from the public eye.  It wasn’t until last year’s Safaricom Live Festival that he introduced his Italian-Kenyan heart throb. Pulsers now get why he hid her away from ‘Team Mafisi’ – the wait was totally worth it. And if word on the street is anything to go by, these two could be the next couple to stage a mega wedding.

Chipukeezy and Vivian

Early this year, Vincent Muasya - better known as Chipukeezy - got on one knee at the pop of champagne during Vivian’s birthday at Villa Rosa Kempinski and popped the magic words; “Will You marry me?”

An elated Vivian said yes, marking the start of the journey down the aisle. Chipukeezy had invited Pulse to cover the moment after daring his fans for months that he was about to make a big announcement.

The comedian who doubles up as a radio host had long kept the love affair under wraps but after the ceremony everyone wanted to get a piece of the new flame. The pair had been spotted partying together several times before. Word has it that a wedding is planned for later this year and as always, we’ve got you covered.

Willy Paul and Leila

Not all stories have a happy ending... well at least not yet for this couple. The ink had barely dried on the pages of their ‘union’ before a scandal hit the two and within no time, the lass (Leila) had moved on to the next guy’s arms.

Many were still coming into terms with Willy Paul’s announcement - through Instagram - that he was ready to settle down with his girlfriend but that was short-lived. Two months ago, it was the Vigelegele singer who broke the news to Pulse that he and Leila, his girlfriend of days, were planning to settle down.

He went ahead to reveal to us how Leila stood by him even when he could not afford to pay his house rent. He said they were headed to marriage as rumours surfaced that the two were living under one roof. What caused the turbulence in this romance?

Jua Cali and wife, Lilly Asigo

The number of times Jua Cali has attended an event in the company of his wife Lilly can be counted on the fingers of one hand, and that is for an artiste who has been active since the early 2000s. While it has always been known that the Kiasi star is married and late last year welcomed his second child, he has always kept his family away from the public limelight.

Recently, during Daddy Owen’s grand wedding with Farida, many in the showbiz circles were surprised when Jua Cali causally walked in with Lilly by his side. The two have been married for years, and the house Jua Cali built on Thika Road is their matrimonial home. This is one happy couple that has kept their love affair off the media.

Frasha and Margaret

How many people have seen this beautiful couple and their kids together? Well he describes his wife, Margaret Mbogo, as the best thing that ever happened to his life and it is no wonder Frasha has always protected his family.

Unknown to many, the mother of three has taken care of the family as Frasha went around the country and abroad almost every weekend for shows.

Ofweneke and Nicah the Queen

When Pulse bumped into Ofweneke and gospel artiste Nicah the Queen on Biashara Street a few months back, the comedian intimated that his wife was about to drop a hit. The two, on that day, were on a shoot, with personnel from a local TV station wheeling equipment in and going through final details. They touched and whispered to each other, with the lady asking for tips from the veteran actor, MC and comedian.

“Nicah (Veronicah Wanja) is actually my wife,” Ofweneke explained when eyebrows were raised. He had not been seen publicly with the lady before that, and since then, she has become more famous especially after the release of a colourful video, Pagawisha.

Curvaceous, confident and sexy, she was cast into the limelight late last year when their relationship was rocked by allegations of the comedian getting too cosy with Maiggie Shicko, a socialite. The comedian threw more fuel into the fire by soliciting for online votes for ‘his friend’ Maiggie, with the post attracting a quick rebuke by Nicah who accused him of undermining her.

The two have a child together, and during the 11th Groove gala nomination night at Loius Leakey auditorium, they came together and posed on the red carpet.

Bon Eye and Wangechi

Since they tied the knot in 2013, P-Unit’s Bon Eye and his wife Wangechi - who got a baby just the other day – have kept their love life private.
