Labuan: Nine Labuan sports associations Thursday received allocation totalling RM45,000 from the Federal Territory Sports Council (FTSC).It is part of the RM225,000 allocated to 40 sports associations in the three federal territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan.

Kuala Lumpur received the largest amount of RM130,000 followed by Putrajaya with RM50,000.

Labuan Sports Council chairman Datuk Rozman Isli said each association received RM5,000 for the cost of managing the associations and as an incentive to excel in their respective sports.

"The funds are to ensure that sports bodies run smoothly, produce good governance sports bodies and for administrative purposes," said Rozman, who is also Labuan Member of Parliament, at a ceremony to present the funds at Labuan Matriculation College here.

Among the associations who received the funds were karate, sepak takraw, archery, football, weightlifting, lawn bowl, badminton and silat.

Rozman reminded Labuan's sports associations to form committees with high commitment to assist in running the sports bodies. "The funds should be managed prudently and systematically by committed committee members," he added. – Bernama
