Bengaluru: Kerala pole vaulter Shani Shaji was in major pain after she injured her ankle on field during the Federations Cup athletics at the Sree Kanteerava stadium in Bengaluru.

That was not the end of Shani's trauma though. The pole vaulter was left writhing in pain as there was neither an ambulance present at the ground nor a doctor.

It was only after several minutes did she receive help from the organisers. They seated her in a car and then rushed her to Mallya hospital which was nearby.

She was then discharged in an hour after her check up.

This incident has raised the repeated issue of lack of security and medical facilities for competitions at national level.
