RANCHI: A 30-year-old woman was on Wednesday hacked to death in Jharkhand's Ramgarh district by a bike-borne assailant who, police said, had been stalking her since the time she was in school. Suken Mandal, the accused who is from Dumka district, chopped off Sonali Murmu's wrists and attacked her several times in front of the gate of the Maharshi Parmananda BEd College in Huhua village, 20 km from Ramgarh, where she was doing a course in teaching.
Police officials said the accused had continued to chase Murmu even after her marriage to Chittaranjan Tudu from Bokaro in 2012, a fact the husband confirmed.
Mandal, however, is yet to be arrested.
Two police teams have been formed to solve the case. Police officials said the teams were focusing on Mandal and are also trying to get a lead from the call details of Murmu's cellphone. A college labourer who was working near the college gate said that Murmu had ventured out to get some food when she was attacked.
