According to the police, the remains were suspected to be of Vanaja of Mannuthy, a middle-aged domestic help who used to work in a few offices and houses in the city.

According to the police, Vanaja went missing in August, 2014. Her relatives had filed a complaint with the Mannuthy police in this regard.

Workers found the remains while they were cleaning the well. Parts of the woman’s sari, purse, bag and mobile phone were also found in the well. Her son and daughter identified the belongings, the police said.

The remains have been sent for post-mortem. The cause of death can be ascertained only after the post-mortem examination, the police said.
