A Special Court for CBI cases here has accepted a CBI plea to close a corruption case connected with the Commonwealth Games-2010 against some officials of the CPWD and the DDA.
The investigating agency had named these officials as accused for entering into a criminal conspiracy with a private company and extending undue favour to it by awarding a contract for laying and providing global category world bowls-approved synthetic outdoor flat Lawn Bowl greens for the Lawn Bowl game.
After perusing the closure report, the court said that the probe had reached a logical end and that there was no evidence against any of the accused who were named in the FIR by the CBI.
“Perused closure report, statement of witnesses and documents enclosed with closure report. After giving a thoughtful consideration to all, I found that investigation has reached the logical end and no evidence surfaced against any of the accused persons alleged in FIR, so closure report is accepted,” Additional Sessions Judge A.K. Jain said while accepting the closure report.
Government loss
The court directed the investigating officer to return the documents to the authorities from whom they were seized.
The officials caused wrongful gain to the firm and corresponding wrongful loss to the Government, the probe agency alleged.
The estimate for eight green lawn bowls was Rs.6 crore, while the company quoted a bid amount of Rs.9.98 crore, and the officials justified it to show undue favour to the company, the FIR said. The court has so far closed two corruption cases connected with the CWG-2010, while it has held accused persons guilty in one case.
