Ephedrine haul: Dubai trip of accused Mukhi and Rathod under scanner

So far, the police had been investigating trips made by some of the arrested accused to Africa, allegedly to meet druglord Vicky Goswami.

THE THANE police probing the Ephedrine drug bust is trying to get details of a trip to Dubai made by the two wanted accused, Jay Mukhi and Kishore Rathod, earlier this year.

So far, the police had been investigating trips made by some of the arrested accused to Africa, allegedly to meet druglord Vicky Goswami. Officers said the Dubai trip may be linked to some cartel operating out of there.

A senior officer said that during their interrogation, two of the accused, Puneet Shringi and Manoj Jain, mentioned a trip to Dubai by Mukhi and Rathod. “Since Dubai is also a place where many underworld gangs operate. we are all the more suspicious. So far, all their trips that we had found out about to iron out the supply of Ephedrine were to Vicky Goswami in Africa,” the officer said.

The police are also trying to gather evidence against the seven arrested accused. An officer said they will need the help of an approver in the case, especially to prove the link of Goswami to the arrested men.

‘No link to Kulkarni yet’

The Thane police said they have so far found no evidence linking Bollywood starlet Mamta Kulkarni to the Ephedrine drug bust. A police team had visited her house in Versova and found its rent was being paid by someone else. Officers, however, said that the development had no relevance to the Ephedrine case.
