Mussoorie, May 5

The project of drawing water from the Yamuna for Mussoorie appears to have run into trouble.

Officials of the Pey Jal Nigam today told Secretary, Drinking Water, Arvind Hayanki, and Mussoorie MLA Mussoorie Ganesh Joshi at a meeting at the Secretary’s office that budgetary constraints had hindered the project.

Joshi raised the issue of paucity of water in Mussoorie. He said the Pey Jal Nigam had prepared a detailed project report to draw water for the town from Yamuna but the project had not seen the light of the day.

Peyjal Nigam officials said a detailed project report had been prepared but it was nearly impossible to get sanctions from the Union government under the NRDWD due to the budgetary constraints as the project cost was too high. They said seeking funds under the Centre’s AMRUT project was also not possible as Municipal Councils were not included in the project.

Arvind Hayanki said the fear of MLA Ganesh Joshi was justified as the town would require more water with the start of sewerage scheme in Mussoorie. Pey Jal Nigam officials said they were looking at the possibility of augmenting water supply for Mussoorie through various sources namely Aglar rivulet, Kolti, PPCL, Galogi and Tehri lake.
