CHENNAI: A carnival atmosphere prevailed at the island grounds in Chennai on Thursday where the Congress and DMK held their joint election rally.
With illuminated cutouts of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and DMK chief M Karunanidhi, blaring of propaganda music and tea and peanut vendors doing merry business inside and outside the grounds, the mood was one of celebration as if the alliance had already won the 2016 assembly elections
The mood was upbeat as cadres of both parties cheered their leaders.
Karunanidhi seated on a wheel chair on stage anchored the introduction of candidates of both parties contesting from various constituencies in the city and adjacent districts.
TNCC chief EVKS Elangovan took a dig at the police personnel on duty asking the crowd to obey the police directives now. "After the election results are out, police will have to listen to what we say," he quipped reflecting the confidence level of Congress.
