Need to make Police Force more citizen-centric: Gujarat CM says
GANDHINAGAR: Chief Minister Anandiben Patel today called upon the police officers and jawans to restore their dignity and respect, taking into confidence the young and old, women and children, for positive results.
Inaugurating the two-day Gujarat Police Officers’ Conference at the Forensic Science University here, she said the police force have to be aware of its duties and responsibilities to make it more citizen-centric.
The police have to come out of its image.
She said it is policemen’s duty to deal sternly with criminals and anti-social elements like gamblers and bootleggers. The mere presence of uniformed men should instill fear among them, to create an atmosphere of peace and safety. At the same time, she said, the common man should feel safe and secure while stepping into a police station.
Even as Gujarat has become the Global Gateway of India, the state has to set an example of peace and security before rest of India. Gujarat has modernized the force to check crime, including cyber crime and terrorism. The police training schools’ 100-hour module is based on revolutionary police station model, to gradually cover the entire force.
The Chief Minister asked the policemen to arrange citizens’ visits to police stations, improving information collection methods and quick response, establishing a link with school and college students, senior citizens and women to send across the message of their life is safe in the hands of the police.
