Adams County authorities have identified the 31-year-old Denver man slain in a Saturday night shooting in Thornton.

Armando Camarena died of a single gunshot wound, the county coroner’s office said. He was pronounced dead at North Suburban Medical Center.

Jeremiah Charles Hooker, 24, was taken into custody and faces charges of second-degree murder in the slaying. He turned himself in on Sunday.

Camarena died after being shot Saturday night on the 9400 block of Lilly Court. Investigators say a fight precipitated the confrontation.

Hooker knew Camarena before the shooting, police said.

Hooker and another person allegedly put Camarena in a car and drove him to North Suburban Medical Center, said Officer Matt Barnes, a Thornton police spokesman.

Hooker than fled the area and surrendered to investigators shortly after being named a person of interest in the shooting, according to authorities.
