New Delhi, May 5 (UNI) Congress president Sonia Gandhi and party vice-president Rahul Gandhi will lead a ‘Save Democracy’ rally by the Congress from Jantar Mantar to Parliament tomorrow to protest what it calls the ‘Murder of Democracy’ by the Narendra Modi Government in Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh, the oppression of students in Central universities and bypassing of the standing committees in Parliament. Addressing reporters here, AICC spokesperson Jairam Ramesh today said,''there has been an attack on democratically elected state governments, universities, students and Parliamentary institutions by the Modi government. The rally, in which all the top leaders of the Congress will participate, is being carried out to protest the ‘murder of Democracy’ by this Government through toppling democratically-elected governments in Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh, oppression of students of the Central universities like JNU and Hyderabad Central university and bypassing of Parliamentary standing committees in Parliament. All this is a systematic destruction of democratic processes by the Narendra Modi Government’’ Mr Ramesh said the rally would begin from Parliament House in the morning and culminate at Jantar Mantar where Congress leaders, including Ms Gandhi and Mr Gandhi would address the gathering.
