Perfect ten: Kerala U-19 bowler Nazil evokes memories of Kumble, takes all 10 wickets

It was not quite Anil Kumble’s 10 for 74 at the Feroze Shah Kotla, but it comes pretty close. Nazil CT, an 18-year-old from Kannur, put in an astounding performance of high quality seam bowling on Wednesday, taking all 10 wickets and conceding just 12 runs.

In an Under-19 match between Kannur and Malappuram at Perinthalmanna’s KCA Stadium in Kerala on Wednesday, Nazil took advantage of the opposition batsmen’s weakness against swing bowling and picked all 10 wickets to fall, helping Kannur skittle out their hapless opponents for just 26 runs. In doing so, he finished with figures of 9.4-4-12-10, reported the Times of India .

Nazil told the newspaper that he considers himself a swing bowler who relies on movement off the pitch rather than raw pace. “I’m an in-swing bowler and I don’t strive for much pace. It helped that the ball moved around in the morning,” he said after his feat, which was also the first time a bowler has taken all 10 wickets in Kerala’s inter-district junior cricket tournament history.

Considering the manner in which he bowls — relying on movement rather than speed — it is no surprise that Nazil looks up to Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and has modeled himself on the Team India pace bowler. “I would like to play for Kerala one day. For the moment, it’s about doing well for my district team,” he said.
