Gaming Innovation Group (GIG) has appointed Mikael Ångman as its new chief operating officer.

Ångman will join GIG in September following a spell as chief executive and chairman of Mobenga, the sports betting technology provider and subsidiary of Playtech.

GIG has also confirmed the appointment of Katja Laaksonen as the new managing director of Guts.com.

Laaksonen currently serves as chief marketing director of Guts, having been with the company since 2011, and will now assume further responsibility in her new role, which she will begin with immediate effect.

Robin Reed, who had been acting as managing director of Guts, will now focus on his role as group chief executive of GIG.

In a statement, GIG said that the appointments form part of a wider process of establishing group executive management, which will be responsible for leadership within the firm’s three business areas of gaming, digital marketing and cloud services.

“GIG has undergone transformational change as we have evolved from an affiliate, to an operator and ultimately the technology firm we are today,” Reed said.

“In this process, we have grown from a dozen employees to now exceeding 160.

“Crucial to our continued expansion is to couple the drive and innovation for which GIG is known, with operational excellence.

“Katja and Mikael have a proven track record and both represent the key qualities we are looking for in our top management.”
