Chelsea's Radamel Falcao not named in Colombia's Copa America squad

On-loan Chelsea striker Radamel Falcao has been left out of Colombia's 40-man preliminary squad for this summer's centenary edition of the Copa America.

Falcao has started just two matches for Chelsea since moving to Stamford Bridge on a season-long loan from Monaco last summer, and has made only one substitute appearance in 2016 after suffering what interim manager Guus Hiddink described as a "very serious" thigh injury in December.

The 30-year-old, tied with Arnoldo Iguaran as his country's all-time top scorer with 25 goals, has not featured for Colombia since a 3-0 defeat to Uruguay in October and was left out by manager Jose Pekerman for World Cup qualifying victories over Bolivia and Ecuador in March.

AC Milan striker Carlos Bacca, Sampdoria's Luis Muriel and Borussia Dortmund frontman Adrian Ramos are among the forwards who have been picked by Pekerman ahead of Falcao, while Chelsea winger Juan Cuadrado, on loan at Juventus, is also included.

Guangzhou Evergrande striker Jackson Martinez was also omitted, creating speculation that both Martinez and Falcao could be among the three over-23 candidates for Colombia's Olympic squad this August.

Pekerman must trim the 40-man provisional squad to 23 by May 20.

Falcao is highly unlikely to be signed permanently by Chelsea this summer and faces an uncertain future after two years plagued by injury.

Monaco vice president Vadim Vasilyev revealed in January that his club have considered cutting short their striker's loan spell at Stamford Bridge, and the 30-year-old revealed in March that he has been the subject of interest from clubs in China.
