Jayalalithaa transferred money to Sasikala in form of gifts, Karnataka tells SC

Bengaluru, May 5: Special Public Prosecutor for Karnataka made a passionate appeal in the Supreme Court to uphold the verdict of the trial court which had convicted Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and three others in the disproportionate assets case.

A Bench comprising Justices P C Ghose and Amitava Roy are hearing appeals filed by Karnataka challenging the acquittal of Jayalalithaa and three others. They were acquitted by the Karnataka High Court.

Acharya who is filing his rejoinder in the case after Jayalalithaa and three others concluded arguments made several remarks about Sasikala Natrajan. Converting unlawful income:

Acharya argued that there is a clear trail that shows Jayalalithaa transferring money in the form of gifts to Sasikala Natrajan. After this transfer was done, she got the same back as debts and showed it as lawful income.

Further Acharya also argued that companies had been floated on behalf of Sasikala Natrajan and others. This was done with the sole purpose of converting unlawful income into lawful income, Acharya also submitted to the Supreme Court. Further he also told the Bench that the control of the entire party (AIDMK) was with Sasikala Natrajan.

Not only does she have the supreme power in the party but also at Poes Garden, the residence of Jayalalithaa, Acharya also contended.

Hearing will continue in the Supreme Court today. Acharya is expected to conclude his arguments by today, it has been indicated.
