The actress will play the lead role in Anees Bazmee’s Aankhen sequel.

When Katrina Kaif was offered a leading role in Anees Bazmee’s sequel to his 2002 heist-thriller, Aankhen, she was less than impressed. Even the stellar cast, comprising of Amitabh Bachchan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and two other A-listers, a gripping script, narrated by the makersand the lure of a remuneration twice her usual fee, couldn't convince her.

The original film, directed by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, was an adaptation of Shah’s own Gujarati play, Andhalo Pato (Blindman's Buff). The film, featuring Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Arjun Rampal, Paresh Rawal and Sushmita Sen, had gone on to receive box-office success as well as critical acclaim.

Now, Mirror has learnt that the central character of the sequel is a woman who brings the blind men together. “Scripting of the sequel has been completed. Like in the original, where Sushmita Sen plans the bank robbery, the sequel has a woman as the mastermind,” reveals a source close to the development.

And when Kat who has just wrapped up her time-travel adventure, Baar Baar Dekho, opposite Sidharth Malhotra and is presently filming Anurag Basu’s Jagga Jasoos with Ranbir Kapoor, heard that the film would revolve around a woman and the three blind men, she green-lit the project.

“Paperwork is still to be completed but an announcement will be made soon. Katrina is also on the verge of signing two other big banner films which will roll this year. She is currently working out her dates for all the three projects,” reveals a source close to the actress.
