Gauhati University beats stress with yoga
Yoga has become part of campus life at Gauhati University (GU), with the university conducting regular yoga classes ahead of International Yoga Day on June 21.
GU has tied up with Vivekananda Kendra, a leading spiritual organization that has pioneered yoga training in the country, and the university community is reaping the health benefits.
"We are encouraging students, teachers and other employees of the university to practise yoga on a regular basis for a healthy body and mind.
We are getting ready for International Yoga Day but the university authorities want to make yoga a regular part of life on campus," said director of students' welfare at GU Ranjan Kumar Kakati.
Not just the GU community, people living around the campus may also take part in the training sessions that are held on the varsity premises every morning. "Before joining the sessions, the students would feel exhausted in the evenings. Stress was affecting their studies. Regular yoga sessions have infused new energy in them," said Nayani Kalita, Kamakhyanagar Nagar Pramukh of Vivekananda Kendra, who supervises the yoga sessions at the university.
