Andhra Pradesh, Telangana should be together: Devineni Umamaheswara Rao

Srikakulam: Major irrigation minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao lamented while they were trying to interlink the rivers in the state for better use of water, upper riparian states like Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Karnataka are constructing illegal projects on Krishna river.

On Wednesday, Mr. Rao made a surprise visit to the Rythu Bazaar in the city.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rao said that though Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have a share of about 800 tmcft of water from Krishna river, they have not been getting their rightful share of water.

“YSRC chief Jagan Mohan Reddy is just trying to get political mileage of the situation. We have requested the Union government to release at least 4 tmcft of water to the Prakasam barrage, which has dried up.

Both Telangana and AP should jointly fight against the illegal irrigation projects that are being taken on river Krishna by Maharashtra and Karnataka. We would take the issue to the Union government and we already filed a petition in the Supreme Court,” he added.
