Gurgaon: An anti-encroachment drive was carried out by Huda in Transport Nagar in Sector 33 on Tuesday over 5 acres of land. Pending for the last 15 years, the area was cleared in order to speed up the development of Transport Nagar into a hub for commercial vehicles entering the city.
The project, spread over an area of 90 acres of land, had failed to take off when the high court stayed the acquisition of 50 acres of land which had been earmarked for the hub.
Over the years, the remaining 40 acres was encroached upon.
Members of Automobile Carrier Welfare Association had recently met union transport minister Nitin Gadkari to highlight that the delay in development of Transport Nagar was causing congestion as transporters parked their vehicles all all over the city.
"In the three hour long drive we demolished around 50 houses and shops and cleared 5 acres of land," said SDO (survey) of Huda, HS Jakhad.
A Huda official said that 70 acres of land had been acquired for the project 15 years back, however, almost 30 acres of this land is under litigation and the rest of the land keeps getting encroached upon. "We will construct a boundary wall to prevent further encroachment," said a senior Huda official, adding that more demolition drives will be carried out to clear the remaining land from encroachments.
The government along with Huda has also planned a transport hub on the Dwarka Expressway near Kherki Daula over 469 acres of land. It will directly connect commercial vehicles travelling on Delhi-Jaipur route to Dwarka expressway, central peripheral road (CPR) and NH8.
