Allahabad: A three-member team of Medical Council of India (MCI) on Wednesday carried out an inspection at Motilal Nehru Medical College, and Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital to ascertain whether both the units are following rules and regulations.
Close on the heels of an alleged ragging case, the inspection took the college administration by surprise.
The team members were Dr Ved Prasad Rai from Kolkata Medical College, Dr MP Porchand, principal, Nagpur Medical College and Dr S Sonia from Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh.

The team verified several documents, records, visited class rooms and inspected all the departments and sections of college and hospital.
As per college authorities, the team would prepare a detailed report on the basis of which recommendations would be made for start of new courses or appointment of lecturers. A negative report could result in disqualification of courses.
"The team verified the documents and computers set up at units. The student-teachers' ratio in each class was taken into account and infrastructure of both the college and hospital was inspected," said Dr RB Kamal of MLNMC.
He said Medical Council of India is a statutory body entrusted with the task of seting up and maintaining high standards of medical education and recognition of medical qualifications.
"The visit is made to ensure standards in the practice of medicine is maintained at college and hospital," added Dr Kamal.
