ISLAMABAD: The administration of the Federal Government Services Hospital (Polyclinic Hospital) could not conduct the autopsy of an insane man, Aqil Shah, who was drowned in Nullah Korang. His relatives took the dead body without a post-mortem. The new Medico Legal Officer(MLO), Dr Durdana, made the excuse of attending a meeting instead of carrying out Shah’s post mortem. Some passerby informed the Police station Koral that he had seen a dead body in Nullah Korang after which police recovered the corpse from the water. Initially it was known that Aqil Shah who drowned in the Nullah was mentally abnormal. The police shifted the dead body to Polyclinic Hospital for post-mortem on the night between Monday and Tuesday. But Dr. Durdana refused to touch it by saying that she was busy in a meeting. After that the relatives of the deceased protested against the hospital management and on Tuesday morning, they took the body without a post-mortem as they had to bury it. The relatives of Aqil Shah gave the statement to the police that his death occurred due to drowning so there was no need of an autopsy. When the Daily Times contacted the Secretary CAAD, Dr Hassan Iqbal, he said that the matter was not in his knowledge. However he assured that he would talk to the Additional Executive Director of Polyclinic Hospital, Dr. Amjad Pomi . It is pertinent to mention here that it is a common impression about Dr. Durdana that she works according to her own will and she often threatens the hospital administration by her influence, when she remained in charge of the Parliament House dispensary for almost a decade due to which she had some political links. This is the reason that senior doctors at Polyclinic do not ask her to perform her duty honestly.
