Aamir Khan, Sai, Barve in Warud today
Nagpur: Bollywood superstar Amir Khan and leading Marathi actress Sai Tamhankar will spend two hours in the sweltering heat of Vidarbha’s Warud taluka on Thursday in what is billed to be a star-studded promotion for a contest to promote water conservation. Impressed by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis’ pet project ‘Jal Yukta Shivar’ water conservation effort, Amir had agreed to contribute his might to promote the endeavour.
In his meeting with Fadnavis in mid-February, three drought-hit talukas of the state were selected for taking up water conservation through public participation. The talukas chosen were Warud in Vidarbha, Ambejogai in Beed of Marathwada and Koregaon in Satara, western Maharashtra.
Amir has instituted a ‘Satyameva Jayate Water Cup’ for the best worker in water conservation work. To promote the contest Amir, along with Sai and Marathi senior actor Sunil Barve will spend two hours in Wathoda village of the taluka and do ‘shramdan’. The village is located around 100km from Nagpur.
Looking at the extreme summer, the shramdan by the actors will be between 6 and 8am. Amravati district collector Kiran Gitte along with his officials, MLA of the area Anil Bonde and Katol MLA Asish Deshmukh will also be present. The actors will interact with villagers and later with the media persons at Warud at around 9am.
