The incident allegedly occurred when the policeman posted at the entrance of the courts tried to frisk Bokhari.
Muhammad Riaz, the policeman who was deputed in civvies at the gate, maintained that when he tried to frisk Bokhari, he resisted and swore at him. When the policeman told Bokhari that they had been directed by the district and sessions judge to search everybody before letting them inside, Bokhari’s security guard stepped in and slapped the officer.
Another policeman deputed nearby told The Express Tribune that Bokhari yelled at Riaz: “Don’t you know me? Who are you to stop me? Not even your IG can stop and frisk me.”
“They pushed me aside and entered the court premises,” Riaz said, adding that he later remembered that the man was the ex-Senate chairman and a senior PPP leader.
Following the incident, Inspector Mehar Mukhtar, the security in-charge at the courts, took Riaz to the office of District and Sessions Judge (West) Kamran Basharat Mufti where the policeman lodged a complaint against Bokhari and his companion.
A policeman, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that the judge remarked that the incident was not just a matter of insulting a policeman, but an insult against the court.
Marrgalla police have registered an FIR against Bokhari and his unnamed guard for assaulting and obstructing a public servant. Section 506 (criminal intimidation), a non-bailable offence, has also been added to the FIR.
Police officers said that the IGP Tariq Masood Yasin had also ordered arrest of the suspects.
Margalla police SHO Asjad Mehmood said no arrests have been made so far.
