Civic chief talks tough on illegal structures

Pimpri Chinchwad: New commissioner of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Dinesh Waghmare said the action against unauthorized constructions would continue according to the high court directives and the state government's policy.
Speaking with reporters after taking charge on Tuesday, Waghmare said, "The civic body has formed a separate cell in order to take action against unauthorized constructions and manpower has been provided to do so.
We will strengthen this cell as well as strictly monitor new unauthorized constructions that come up and take action to control them."
Waghmare listed his objectives saying that he will try to make Pimpri Chinchwad a green and smart city, ensure clean and people-oriented administration, increase video surveillance network, ensure 100% treatment of sewage and increase the use of recycled water.
Waghmare said that efforts would be made to provide maximum civic facilities through online means and at the doorsteps of citizens. There would be a review of the CCTV network, after which video surveillance would be increased with police help, he said.
He said that there will be an emphasis on having wifi throughout the city, and if it cannot be done, attempts to have wifi hotspots would be made.
Emphasising the need for complete sewage treatment and proper solid waste management, he said, "There is a need for 100% treatment of sewage. If recycled water is used for gardening, washing of vehicles and in industries, then it will save drinking water."
He added that the works under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (Amrut) schemes would also continue.
