Denver-based DaVita HealthCare Partners Inc. first-quarter income returned to the black, the kidney-care giant and physicians’ network operator reported Wednesday.

DaVita reported a net income of $97.4 million, or 47 cents per diluted share, on revenue of $3.6 billion for the quarter that ended on March 31, 2016. A year before, DaVita reported a net loss of $110.6 million, or 52 cents per share, on revenue of $3.3 billion.

The quarter’s earnings report include some results the operations of The Everett Clinic Medical Group, the 20-site physicians practice DaVita acquired for $385 million. The Everett acquisition closed on March 1.

DaVita, which has been in acquisition and expansion mode, separately announced that it entered a joint venture with the Malaysian Government’s investment fund to operate kidney care facilities in the Asia-Pacific region.

Last fall, the company partnered with the president of Shunjing Renal Hospital to operate kidney care centers in China.
