While she is known to be a versatile actor and was one of the first artistes from India to make a name on the global platform, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan says she enjoys being a part of all kinds of movies irrespective of their language or region.
Asked whether she feels international film-makers are opening opportunities for different roles for Indian actors, Aishwarya said, “Kudos to all the professionals who are doing all kinds of cinema … I don’t think cinema needs to be localised. That has always been my attitude,” reported The Indian Express.
The 42 year-old-actor has always believed in doing a variety of roles and that reflects in her filmography. “Probably, one of the main reasons for me to start my career with Iruvar was to make this statement … I am here to be an artiste and enjoy being a part of cinema irrespective of which region, language or where it is being made. I enjoy cinema for what it is,” stated Aishwarya, who will complete 15 years of walking the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival this year.
“I have never been the one to make a hullabaloo about where the film is being made … that has been my attitude and continues to be. That’s why I have had the wonderful opportunities of working in south Indian films, Hindi cinema, Bengali movies and a couple of English films,” she added, mentioning that her approach to selecting projects has been very simple. “The deciding factors in my approach are very simplistic. It could be the subject, or something that works with my schedule or fits with that phase of my life. It is not any more or less. There is no larger plan to it.”
On the work front, Aishwarya has begun shooting for her role in Omung Kumar’s directorial Sarbjit. Aishwarya’s co-star in the film, Ankur Bhatia, heaped praise over the Jazbaa actor stating she has given one of her career’s best performances in the upcoming biopic. Ankur, who plays Aishwarya’s husband in the film said, “Sarbjit is one of her best films and performances. I was completely in awe of her. She is a huge star, but at the same time very jolly, nice and humble. She used to talk about her baby and made sure everybody was comfortable on the sets.” The film stars Randeep Hooda in the titular role and Aishwarya as Sarbjit’s sister Dalbir Kaur.
Bollywood actor Richa Chadha who will also be seen in Sarbjit, too shared it was a pleasure to work with Aishwarya. “I am in awe of her. She is so sharp. She knows all her lines at the back of her mind. We have to applaud the fact that Hindi is not her mother tongue, and here she is trying Punjabi,” said Richa, proving Aishwarya works hard to adapt to different roles. “She guided me like a mentor. She is a superstar and the world’s most beautiful woman. Her name itself is a big brand.”
