MANGALURU: National Institute of Technology - Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal is coordinating CCMT 2016 - that is admission for MTech/MArch/MPlan/MArch and MDes). This time, 30 NITs/11 CFTIs are participating in this counseling for admission. There are 44 reporting centers and help centers at strategic locations to guide candidates for smooth conduct of counseling process.
Around 9,700 seats of 308 PG disciplines across 41 participating institutes will be filled in this process.
CCMT is single window system for GATE qualified students to select their any of the above PG program in NITs and few centrally funded technical institutes. This centralized system has replaced earlier system where students had to apply individually to various institutes and go there and appear for interview/counseling. The older system caused difficulties to students such as filling multiple applications and missing some Institutes due to overlapping admission dates.
Centralized counseling has provided a system wherein students can fill one online registration form from their homes and apply to all programmes in all participating institutions to which they are eligible and interested. This time, there are three rounds of seat allotments followed by internal sliding. Candidate needs to register and fill choices based on her/his eligibility criteria and her/his interest. Seat allotment is done strictly based on GATE score, NITK release stated.
Once the seat is allotted in any of the above three rounds, there will be a provision to specify ones willingness. They are freezing - indicating candidate is satisfied with current allotment; floating - implies willingness for all higher preferred choices across the Institutes for further rounds of seat allotment (except in 3rd round); sliding - implies willingness to be considered for higher preferred choices within the Institute allotted to her/him during further rounds of seat allotment.
Internal sliding is for those candidates whose willingness is marked as sliding. Internal sliding is similar to first three rounds but for seats within the Institutes. After completion of three rounds of allotment and internal sliding, there will be a national spot round (NSR) for left out seats after internal sliding. In NSR, fresh applicants are allowed to participate in counseling and choice filling will be done afresh. Once seat is allotted, candidates need to go to allotted institute.
Here they can get formal admission during specific period and attend to classes as per the Institute academic schedule. For more details, please visit http://ccmt.nic.in
