NAGPUR: Congress party spokesman Sudhir Dhone said that while state Congress president Ashok Chavan will tour Osmanabad district, ex-CM Prithviraj Chavan will go to Beed and leader of the opposition Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil to Aurangabad. In Vidarbha, state ex-president Manikrao Thakre will visit Buldhana while ex-minister Nitin Raut will go to Akola district.
Latur district will be covered by ex-CM Narayan Rane while ex-minister Patangrao Kadam will tour Jalna.
Senior leader Balasaheb Thorat will visit Parbhani while Harshwardhan Patil will visit Hingoli. Ex-minister Shivajirao Moghe will tour Nanded while Satej Patil will study the situation in Solapur.
Each of these leaders is to spend two days in a district, visiting the worst-affected villages to meet people and give them support. They would also meet officials to discuss problems being faced by people in getting drinking water. Congress leaders would also assess if relief measures announced in the cabinet meeting last month in Latur by the BJP-led government were being implemented.
Congress believes the state government has failed to address farmers’ issues in the drought-hit districts. It pointed out that last year, 3,224 distressed farmers committed suicide and the government failed to help them.
